The 36th BMS User Conference, one of the most important events for the building automation industry and the BACnet community, took place in Stuttgart from September 11 to 13, 2024. The BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) participated with a booth and a presentation.

The special quality of the GLT User Conference is that many users are represented here, including many from the public sector and other institutions. The BIG-EU booth at the BMS User Conference was a center for exciting discussions about the latest trends in building automation between the numerous specialist presentations.

Patrick Lützel (TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH) and Rüdiger Schröder (Fraport AG), Chairmen of the BIG-EU Working Group Facility Management (WG-FM), gave a presentation entitled “The IT Security Act: The BIG-EU WG-FM Guide”. In this lecture, they presented the current status 9-24 of the “Guideline Cyber Security in Building Automation”. The guideline was developed in the BIG-EU Working Group WG-FM. A public review in August 2024 incorporated a large amount of feedback from industry circles into the document. Incidentally, the WG-FM working group was founded in September 2022 at the BMS User Conference.

Guideline “Cyber Security in Building Automation”

With the guideline “Cyber Security in Building Automation”, WG-FM aims to define the framework conditions for the secure operation of a property in a user-oriented manner. To this end, it sets out the current requirements for IT/OT security in buildings. Binding requirements exist in Germany for operators of critical infrastructures (KRITIS) and federal authorities. The guide is also aimed at all operators, planners, installers and consultants of technical building equipment systems and, in particular, building automation systems. The guide is not intended to create IT/OT security concepts. It is intended to provide an overview of the necessary activities with corresponding references to already established tools.

Current Status 09-24 on the BIG-EU Website

The guideline is based on the life cycle phases in facility management of the “GEFMA 100” guideline (www.gefma.de/service/shop) and takes into account the individual service profiles of the Fee Structure for Architects and Engineers (HOAI – www.hoai.de/hoai/leistungsphasen), which are divided into nine service phases (LP). In the first step, WG-FM assessed and defined LP 0 (operational concept, requirements planning) and LP 1 (basic evaluation). The current status 09/24 of these service phases can be downloaded as a PDF document from the website www.big-eu.org/resources.
