{"id":1387,"date":"2022-06-27T19:56:43","date_gmt":"2022-06-27T19:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/case-studies\/mars-phase-ii-public-health-ontario\/"},"modified":"2022-08-17T12:54:50","modified_gmt":"2022-08-17T12:54:50","slug":"mars-phase-ii-public-health-ontario","status":"publish","type":"case-studies","link":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/case-studies\/mars-phase-ii-public-health-ontario\/","title":{"rendered":"MaRS Phase II &#8211; Public Health Ontario"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When Public Health Ontario (PHO) relocated its largest laboratory from Etobicoke to the MaRS Discovery District in downtown Toronto, Modern Niagara provided the fit-up of an integrated, state-of-the-art Building Controls for its certified laboratory space. The relocation was a key aspect of Ontario&#8217;s multi-year plan to renew the province&#8217;s public health system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the PHO fit-up, we:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Provided the system that controls the mechanical operations for all tenant spaces;<\/li><li>Designed and integrated mechanical and laboratory control systems into a single user interface; and Integrated with laboratory equipment and designed an interface<br>to monitor it remotely.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our portion of the project included developing a sophisticated yet easy-to-use interface for the laboratory&#8217;s end users that seamlessly integrates two large and typically independent technologies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Distech Controls from Modern Niagara, providing for mechanical system control (supply airflow and thermal comfort)<\/li><li>Phoenix Controls from Belnor Engineering, providing for laboratory equipment control (exhaust airflow and lab containment)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our control system design work included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Designing the location of sensors and end-user devices, which include control units, displays, and touch panels;<\/li><li>Programming the sequencing of containment operations to occur in the case of failure;<\/li><li>Managing the installation process along with the unique challenges associated with building a high performance laboratory;<\/li><li>Assisting with the design of a safe and secure system that allows building staff to remotely access the system from anywhere over the internet; <\/li><li>Participating in the project&#8217;s unified, cloud-based training and documentation program; and<\/li><li>Modeling the CL laboratories in three dimensions to provide end users with an easy-to-understand, familiar interface through which they can quickly see the containment status of their facility.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>MNBC created a system that was clear and easy to use, and the space successfully achieved the laboratory Containment Level certifications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Public Health Ontario (PHO) relocated its largest laboratory from Etobicoke to the MaRS Discovery District in downtown Toronto, Modern Niagara provided the fit-up of an integrated, state-of-the-art Building Controls [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","country":[97],"market":[96],"manufacturer":[101,114],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/case-studies\/1387"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/case-studies"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/case-studies"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1387"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"country","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/country?post=1387"},{"taxonomy":"market","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/market?post=1387"},{"taxonomy":"manufacturer","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.big-eu.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/manufacturer?post=1387"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
