BACnet Interest Group Europe e.V.

First German BACnet reference book available

This first BACnet book describes BACnet Version 1, Revision 4, the recent addenda and the discussions about network services and network security.

440 pages present the functionality of technical building services, the integration of microelectronics, computer technology, and informatics. The book gives an introduction to network technologies and explains the functional relationship to LON, KNX/EIB and the internet. It explains what BACnet can do, the benefits of interoperable systems and the application areas of BACnet. Consultants, landlords, operators, and experts on building automation and control systems will benefit from the detailed information including citations from the ISO standard, the relevant DIN-publications, from VOB (German construction contract procedures) and the GAEB-STLB-Bau (German Master Specification).

The author also makes clear that the use of new technologies such as microelectronics and IT are only an "auxiliary energy" for the controls solutions at the construction site - the operation of technical plants is still the most important factor. Investors' interests are addressed in detail, e.g. producer independency and long-term investment protection.

The author, Hans R. Kranz VDI, has occupied managerial positions with Siemens, IBM and Honeywell and is an expert on building automation and control. Today he is head of HAK-Consulting-House Automation Kranz, in Forst/Germany, a member of the executive board of VDI-TGA, a member of the DIN Presidial Board, is active in many standardization and guideline committees, a member of the BACnet Interest Group Europe and course leader for the VDI/BIG-EU BACnet trainings as well as Honorary Consul for Europe for ABOK, the Russian Association of HVAC Engineers.
